Agile AI Governance is the Ultimate Skillset
We only realize the full benefits of AI if we effectively manage the risks. Today's AI solutions are scaling in complexity at unfathomable rates with new and emerging opportunities and risks scaling with them. AI governance is no longer a monolithic concept that can be applied evenly to "risky AI." Today's AI require a new dimension of AI governance, which means teams require a new set of AI governance skills that allow them to apply their knowledge, strategy, and practical abilities in agile ways to manage an ever-expanding variety of AI opportunities, vendors, solutions, and stakeholders throughout the AI ecosystem. AIPL's certifications deliver these skills...and then some.
Professional Certification Levels
FOUR certification levels each focused on a unique type of commercially available AI.

Level 1 Certification
The Level 1 Certification focuses on "Task-Based Platforms" with fixed functionality and standard licensing terms. These include user-friendly solutions like ChatGPT, Claude, Otter.ai, and Grammarly that work immediately upon sign-up. Individual users gain productivity benefits through pre-defined capabilities for tasks like writing, image generation, and document summarization. Governance efforts focus on clearly understanding vendors' pre-defined terms and ensuring appropriate use within organizational boundaries.

Level 3 Certification
The Level 3 Certification focuses on robust low-code/no-code AI agent "Orchestration Platforms" enabling organizations to build automated workflows and AI agents across multiple integrated systems and applications. Solutions like Gumloop, Zapier, and n8n provide pre-established connections to web-based and enterprise tools, allowing cross-application automation without deep technical expertise. Governance efforts address complex multi-system security, agent performance metrics, and increasingly complex terms and conditions around data handling and pricing models.

Level 2 Certification
The Level 2 Certification focuses on "Domain-Specific Platforms" with embedded AI Capabilities. These solutions such as Salesforce, Workday, Zoom, and Zendesk use your proprietary data powered by rule-based and AI-assisted functionality and workflows to deliver contextually relevant outcomes, insights, forecasts, and automation. Governance efforts emphasize data privacy, security protocols, and managing minimally negotiable licensing terms while maximizing business-specific intelligence.

Level 4 Certification
The Level 4 Certification focuses on bespoke "Build-to-Suit" AI solutions that organization commission and co-create with specialized partners, featuring complex custom integrations, multi-agent orchestration, or physical / embodied AI systems. These implementations require extensive development, detailed specifications, and ongoing maintenance agreements. Governance efforts involve comprehensive contract negotiation, performance metrics, acceptance criteria, and continuous oversight of highly customized deployments.
The curriculum content is carefully scaffolded to build learner knowledge from basic to complex concepts using well developed definitions, explanations, visuals, scenarios, tip sheets, resources, and more. Each certification provides foundational learning that is necessary to master prior to embarking on the next certification. Certifications must be achieved in sequence. "Skipping" a certification in order to get to a higher level certification is not permitted.
Course Content
The curriculum for each certification course mirrors the traditional technology acquisition lifecycle.
Regardless of the type of AI we buy, we will always start with a "problem to be solved" and conclude with a decommissioning plan. Buying AI hasn't changed the steps in this lifecycle, but it does require us to consider new AI concepts at certain key milestones. Each certification course reveals these new considerations and requirements based on the AI type for the certification.
Planning our AI acquisitions requires a close look at the problem we are trying to solve with an AI governance lens. In other words, buying AI requires more quantitative data gathering and analysis during this step. It also requires a review of potential impacts the solution may have - both intended and unintended - on stakeholders.

Each type of AI we seek requires a different level of investigation intensity for these common planning steps:
-
Root Cause Analysis
-
Needs Analysis
-
Data Assessments
-
Market Research
-
Impact Assessments
-
Risk Profiling
